NAI is an industry trade group formed in 1999 that develops self-regulatory standards for online advertising and is the leading self-regulatory association exclusively focused on third-party online advertising.The organization was created by Advertising Networks due to the concerns raised by FTC about user privacy.

Their goal is to create, draft, and oversee the self-regulation of the third-party online advertising industry through enforceable standards and ongoing compliance efforts
