Viral marketing is a term used to refer to marketing techniques that attempt to exploit social networks and other electronic means to produce exponential increases in “famous brand” (Brand Awareness) through self-replicating viral processes.
It is usually based on word of mouth through electronic means; uses the effect of “social network” created by Internet. The term viral marketing is also used to describe covert marketing campaigns, including the use of blogs, seemingly amateur sites, and other forms of astroturfing designed to create word of mouth for a new product or service
